Beach, July 4th and 4 Months!

Not sure where this past month has gone? We've been keeping busy with trips to the park, the mall, the supermarket and even took a small beach trip! Mason is changing everyday, he continues to amaze me every morning when I wake up to his sweet smiles. His 4 month check up went great, weighing in at 15.8 pounds and 24.8 inches long! (in the 54th %) He is wearing size 2 diapers now and mostly 6 month clothes. Today He actually rolled over from his back to tummy! Eating has become a little challenging because Mason has become so alert of his surroundings he does not want to concentrate on eating, that and a little teething makes for a fun feeding! We received the ok to start some solids and oatmeal by spoon, as well as bananas, avocado, sweet potatoes and peas.  Mason enjoyed his first beach trip, we loved every minute of the fun in the sun and sand! He really is a water baby.  Sweet Cailyn enjoyed playing with Mason and reading him books too!  Ma

Mason at 3 Months

So much is changing about our sweet boy, he's no longer considered a newborn since he's hit the three month mark.  Not sure where the time has gone.... Each morning I look forward to waking up to his smile and coos. He's a morning person to say the least! He always greets you with a smile and he has started to smile at strangers too. He loves to be talked to and coos away! He also is becoming very alert and curious of his surroundings.  He will focus in on an object and really study it. Mason has also discovered his hands and will grab his toys, my hair, his passy and his baba (bottle). Mason is wearing 3-6 month clothes and is outgrowing 1 diapers. He's eating 6 oz bottles every 4-5 hours and has slept through the night a few times for eight hours!

Lessons from Mommyhood (so far...)

1) Expect the unexpected.  Just when you think you've got it all together something goes awry... for example, just because baby pooped at 9:00am for past three days in a row does not mean  that they won't have a diaper blow-out at 3:00pm that day too (at the mall too for that matter).  Just because baby ate at 8:00, 1:00, 5:00 and 10:00 for weeks does not mean that they won't get hungry when you least expect it. Always, Always, ALWAYS be prepared with extra clothes,  extra food, and more diapers than you would ever think that you'd need for a day out! 2) Sleep Deprivation is to be expected, but no one warns you about the extent of this, I guess people will tell you to rest during the last months of pregnancy but no amount of rest pre-baby is enough.  For me, this was the hardest thing to overcome. I was told to "rest while the baby is resting" right, this was and still is an impossible task. Finally, at about 3 months into mommy hood I am finally adjusting t

Mason at 2 Months

Mason's little personality is starting to shine! He is so smily and has TONS of facial expressions, especially with his lips and eyebrows. He has starting cooing and mimicking lip movements and  has also begun to discover his hands and grabs with his fingers. He loves bath time and is very alert and talkative right after. Weight/Height: Weight of 10.8 pounds, 21.25 inches long Hair & Eyes: Hair is dark brown, your hair line is just like daddy's.  Your eyes are still changing but continue to be a beautiful shade of dark hazel Diapers: Wearing size 1 Clothes: no more  newborn clothes, you are wearing 0-3 and some 3 month clothes Eating: 5 ounces every 4-5 hours, we  introduced  rice cereal at 1 tsp per ounce and it is really helping with reflux, no more vomits and very little spit ups! You eat between 8:00-9:00 and wake to eat between 2:00-3:00 in the morning, then back to sleep until 7:00. Mommy and Daddy are beginning to get more sleep too!  Sleeping: 15-20

1 Month... already?!?

This month has FLOWN by, it really is a blur.  I have to say that the first two weeks were pretty hard.  It was a big adjustment bringing Mason home and establishing a routine around eating, sleeping and keeping him satisfied.  As the month went on we adjusted quickly and are beginning to get into the groove of things. Mason is becoming very alert and looks at objects around the house, he loves making eye contact with mommy and daddy and even cracks a little smile! He has started to make fists and bring them up to hold onto his bottle. We started tummy time this month, he's not a huge fan but is very strong and is lifting his head up and scooting his knees.  Weight/Height: You are getting a little chunky and filling out all over, no official weight as of your 1 month but I am sure you are over 8 pounds. You were 20 inches at your last appointment on April 3rd. Your next Dr.'s appointment is May 19! Hair & Eyes: Your hair is dark and growing! Your eyes keep

GO BRAVES!

Baseball Season is in full swing. Mason loves watching the games on TV with daddy, couldn't resist these shots of him right after a diaper change, at 4 weeks he is so alert! He even was practicing his swing, future MVP!  Batter UP!

The Nipple Cream Saga

It was only a matter of time until Dixie was going to get her paws on something that she wasn't supposed to when it came to baby Mason. I would have never guessed that the something would be a whole tube of nipple cream.  I knew she was up to no good when she was no where to be found.... it was too quiet.  I searched for her all over the house...  and there she was, deep under our king sized bed going to town on the entire bottle.  I immediately called our vet and after a few laughs from the Dr. she assured me that it was all natural and harmless (the baby even eats it off of your skin), though it would have to pass on its own out of puppy's system. Not sure if you are familiar with the consistency of this cream but it is very thick and yellow and waxy.  A few hours later that was exactly what was oozing out of Dixie's behind... And it was all over the house.  I panicked! Mike was too far away to rush home, luckily mom rushed over and we confined Dixie to the bathroo

Brand New

Weight/Height: Coming home from the hospital Mason was 6 pounds 8 oz. 19.25 inches Hair & Eyes: Dark brown/Black hair, hairline is just like Daddy's with a cute little widow's peak Diapers: Newborn or 1's folded over in the front going through 10-12 a day Clothes: Newborn, which I had little of... thankfully Aunt Jackie had a few outfits on hand from cousin Bryson that we were able to borrow. Eating: Breastfeeding, pumping and supplementing  formula every 2 hours during the 1st 2 weeks, vomiting almost after every feeding which landed us at CHOA since your weight dropped 5 oz in the 1st two weeks. After switching to Similac sensitive and giving Zantac twice a day you are keeping down formula. At two weeks you started taking 2.5-3 oz of formula every 3-4 hours. Sleeping: Varies, you can sleep for 2 hours or 4-5 hours through the night. (Which we prefer!) During the day naps last from 1-2 hours between feedings.

Mason's Birth Story

March 13, 2014: Even though we knew that I was going in at 5:00 am the next morning for a scheduled c-section, the day couldn't come fast enough. It had been a long nine months and we could not wait to meet our baby boy. The night before the big day, Mike and I ate an early dinner at Outback Steakhouse since we knew it was going to be the last good "going out to dinner" we would have in a few days, or possibly weeks. We went home, packed for the hospital, loaded the car and tried to relax. We got a few hours of sleep the night before, maybe 2-3 to be exact but we were running on adrenaline at that point. March 14, 2014, 3:30 am: The morning the alarms rang loud and clear! Time to go. We hopped in the car and drove straight to Northside Hospital, check in was a breeze and before we knew it I was in a hospital gown getting prepped for surgery.  The time flew by, right up until 7:00am when it was time for the epidural. After a very long hour of testing for numbness it was

Maternity Photos

We had the pleasure of working with Stacy again with Stacy Mize Photography for our maternity photos.  We couldn't be happier with them and are so thrilled to announce baby's name!

PIZZA

My love for pizza has far surpassed anything that I could have imagined during this pregnancy.  I wouldn't call it a craving because it has taken on more than that.  If it wasn't for poor Mike I'd probably be eating pizza every day.

Bumpdates

Bump Updates for 28 and 30 weeks.  Anxiously approaching 32 weeks and waiting to get past the point when we lost Madison has been very emotional.  I'm doing my best not to dwell on the weeks but it is hard not to relive this time during my last pregnancy.
