Lessons From the Road part Deux- NOLA

They're good folks, letting good times roll – rolling with all the punches that the weather and the rest of the country and history throw their way. They are proud people. They are good people. With more culture and heart than most of us other Southerners can lay claim to. I have to admit that I had a preconceived notion that I would not like it here... yes, it probably has a lot to do with the fact that I despise the Saints. Naturally, as I am a Falcons Fan.
I've learned that just as you can't judge a book by it's cover, you can't judge a city by it's football team (the aint's)
Madison.
I see your name everywhere, everyday. I saw that a Madison Street existed on the map and had to walk there, no matter how far it was. Once I got there it took everything in me from not breaking down in the middle of the street. I thank GOD for these daily reminders of you.

Historic Court of Two Sisters
613 Rue Royale is named for Emma and Bertha Camors, sisters who once owned a notions and fancies shop here. Emma and Bertha belonged to a proud, aristocratic Creole family; their notions outfitted many of New Orleans’ high society women in formal gowns, lace, and perfumes imported from Paris. With a larger courtyard than its neighbors, the residence lent itself to visitors, and the sisters’ shop received many.
Marriage, reversals of fortune, widowhood--nothing could separate the two sisters. The sisters died within two months of each other in the winter of 1944. They lie side by side at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, united in death as in life.

This guy did not move, he stood frozen in the street with his little dog- which must have been fake?!? In front of him is his tip bucket. Which leads me to another lesson...
Always carry SOME cash. Unless the many street performers of New Orleans start accepting debit I don't think that they get as many tips as they deserve... most of us just don't carry cash anymore.

The Original Cafe Du Monde, since 1862 is a traditional coffee shop. Its menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French -style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar. In 1988 Iced Coffee was introduced to the cafe. Soft drinks also made their debut that year.

We ended our night with dinner at Remoulade on Bourbon and tried our 1st "Hand Grenades" from Tropical Isle. These are known as New Orleans most powerful drinks.
Tropical Isle's grenade recipe is a marketed as a trade secret that only a handful of people know (though you can buy the mix directly from them to make at home, with it's ingredients listed on the side and directions as to what alcohol to add is listed on the back), the employees are required to sign confidentiality agreements pledging not to reveal it. Tropical Isle believes that the secrecy increases the drink's mystique. I have to admit it was delicious!

Golfing with the guys, Lakewood Golf Course New Orleans
Lesson Learned:
Mike and his brother Blake are very passionate about their golf. The rain, wind and cold could not keep these two from passing up their coveted tee time. I was talked into riding along as they played, it was "supposed" to be a really nice, sunny day. We didn't see a ray of sun. It was freezing, and I was soaking wet. I made it through nine holes before begging Mike to take me back to his truck where I proceeded to crank the heat up to 100 degrees and managed to fall asleep while the guys finished their round.

One Day at a Time

Grieving... it is sometimes described as a "roller coaster" but there are no words to describe the roller coaster that I am on.  Some days go by and I am completely fine, I don't know how but we still laugh, I act goofy with Mike and we are "normal"... our kind of normal.    Then, out of no where it's like someone drops a bomb on you and you spin out of control and a wave of emotions take over and you loose complete control. One minute I'm angry that our daughter is gone and I cannot see her or hold her, the next minute I an anxious about how our life will never be the same and how do I go on with day to day activities. It is the strangest feeling to be so out of control of your feelings and emotions. I want to say that we are "OK" and that 90% of the time we are strong and staying positive, I know that is what Madison would want and that she is looking down on us giving us the strenght we need.   We have a wonderful support group that

Beach, July 4th and 4 Months!

Not sure where this past month has gone? We've been keeping busy with trips to the park, the mall, the supermarket and even took a small beach trip! Mason is changing everyday, he continues to amaze me every morning when I wake up to his sweet smiles. His 4 month check up went great, weighing in at 15.8 pounds and 24.8 inches long! (in the 54th %) He is wearing size 2 diapers now and mostly 6 month clothes. Today He actually rolled over from his back to tummy! Eating has become a little challenging because Mason has become so alert of his surroundings he does not want to concentrate on eating, that and a little teething makes for a fun feeding! We received the ok to start some solids and oatmeal by spoon, as well as bananas, avocado, sweet potatoes and peas.  Mason enjoyed his first beach trip, we loved every minute of the fun in the sun and sand! He really is a water baby.  Sweet Cailyn enjoyed playing with Mason and reading him books too!  Ma

1 Month... already?!?

This month has FLOWN by, it really is a blur.  I have to say that the first two weeks were pretty hard.  It was a big adjustment bringing Mason home and establishing a routine around eating, sleeping and keeping him satisfied.  As the month went on we adjusted quickly and are beginning to get into the groove of things. Mason is becoming very alert and looks at objects around the house, he loves making eye contact with mommy and daddy and even cracks a little smile! He has started to make fists and bring them up to hold onto his bottle. We started tummy time this month, he's not a huge fan but is very strong and is lifting his head up and scooting his knees.  Weight/Height: You are getting a little chunky and filling out all over, no official weight as of your 1 month but I am sure you are over 8 pounds. You were 20 inches at your last appointment on April 3rd. Your next Dr.'s appointment is May 19! Hair & Eyes: Your hair is dark and growing! Your eyes keep
